9th May 2012: Europe Day!
On the 9th of May 1950 Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. This proposal, known as the “Schuman declaration”, is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union.
To celebrate this event the European Institutions annually opens their doors to the general public. Visitors are able to get an inside glimpse of the workplaces of the EU Commissioners, MEPs and Ministers. This year, the open day will take place on the Saturday 12th May. Festival, organised activities and concerts are all on the menu. Admission is free.
