Agreement on European Social Fund

On October 17, the Lithuanian Presidency announced that the funding criteria for the European Social Fund (ESF) were agreed after the successful talks between the Permanent Representatives of the EU Member States (COROPER) and representatives from the European Parliament. The fund will be used to support employment, education, training and social inclusion and will also enable the launch the Youth Employment Initiative, which in particular aims at supporting young people not in education, employment or training in the regions with the youth unemployment rate above 25 per cent.
