Conclusions of the EU Youth Conference, Vilnius 9-12 September 2013

The EU Youth Conference of the Lithuanian Presidency in Vilnius adopted 21 joint conclusions drafted by more than 250 young people and policy-makers from all 28-member states of the EU.

The conclusions are the result of the four days of workshops and discussions at the conference. They focus on concrete proposals on enhancing social inclusion of the youth, especially of young people not in employment, education or training (NEETs), into the labour market, the education system and social life, which is the overall theme of this cycle of the Structured Dialogue.

The conclusions present the following proposals:

– Adapt Education to the Needs of Young People and Demands of the Labour Market

– Inform and Guide Young People in their Transitions

– Facilitate the Transition from Education to Employment

– Improve the Labour Market for Young People

– Support Young People’s Autonomy

– Enhance the Role of Youth Organisations

– Develop Cross-Sectoral Cooperation

The Lithuanian EU Youth Conference was the second conference within the Trio Presidencies of Ireland, Lithuania and Greece, highlighting the theme of the social inclusion of young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEETs).

The Conclusions will contribute to the draft EU Council Conclusions that are being developed in the EU Council on enhancing the social inclusion of young people not in employment, education or training and that are expected to be adopted by the EU Member States’ Ministers for Youth in November 2013.

Furthermore, they will also provide input to the draft Council Resolution on structured dialogue with young people regarding social inclusion, which will be adopted under the upcoming Greek Presidency.
