Employment and inclusion of young people in times of crisis
The Danish EU Presidency wishes to draw special attention to the severe challenges, which young Europeans are currently facing. The matter will be addressed at the Informal meeting of Ministers for Employment and Social Policy on the 24 and 25 April and at the Conference on ’Youth: Employment and Inclusion in times of crisis’ on the 26 and 27 April in Horsens.
The current social and economic crisis is having a particularly negative impact on the working, living and educational conditions of young Europeans who find themselves faced with extraordinary difficulties when establishing themselves on the labour market. The European Commission is addressing these problems in the ‘Youth Opportunities Initiative’ from December 2011. The Danish EU Presidency aims to elaborate on the initiative by drawing special attention to three key elements essential for the European youth:
1. Access to the Labour Market
2. Developing Skills and Maintaining Readiness
3. Social Inclusion
