European Commission to adopt work programme for 2014
Today, the European Commission will adopt its work programme for 2014 setting out the key new initiatives for the year to come and highlighting the priority items for adoption by the legislator before the European Parliament elections in May 2014.
The European Economic and Social Committee has launched the “Your Europe, Your Say” 2014, a simulated youth plenary session allowing secondary school children from the 28 EU Member States to see how the EESC decision-making process works in relation to a specific subject.
The simulation exercise will take part in two stages.
Schools wishing to take part must register online through the EESC’s internet site before 30 November 2013 (midnight Brussels time).
After registration has closed, one school from each of the 28 EU Member States will be picked at random, to take part in the simulation exercise.
The selected schools will then choose three students in their pre-final year of secondary education (aged 16-17 years) to represent them, as well as a teacher who will accompany them. These people will have to be able to express themselves in English or French.
Under the campaign slogan “act, react, impact” the Your Europe, Your Say 2014 will focus on the 2014 European Parliament elections.
The event will take place in Brussels at the headquarters of the European Economic and Social committee from 26-28 March 2014.
The EESC will pay the travel and accommodation expenses of the students and accompanying teacher.
