Literary translation project selection results for 2011 out now

This year the Culture Programme supports the translation of 495 works of fiction for close to 2.8 million Euros.

By the application deadline 3 February 2011, a record number of 301 applications had been submitted by European publishers asking for support to translate 1399 works of fiction – an increase of 91 applications compared to 2010.

The success rate was 32%. Bulgarian, Croatian and Slovenian applicants enjoyed the largest number of successful applications (with respectively 13, 11 and 9 applications).

The Culture Programme supports the translation of high-quality European literature from one European language into another for the purposes of stimulating the widest circulation of European literature among European citizens. Each applicant can propose up to 10 books of fiction to be translated with a total grant of between 2000 and 60000 Euros. The works must already have been published and not previously translated into the target language.

The deadline is 3 February every year.
