Malala Yousafzai: winner of the Sakharov Prize 2013
Malala Yousafzai, the 16 years old Pakistani campaigner for girls’ education is the laureate of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought 2013, following today’s decision of the Conference of Presidents (EP President and political group leaders).
She will be invited to receive the award at a ceremony in Strasbourg on 20 November 2013.
The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, named after Soviet scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, was established in December 1988 by the European Parliament.
The aim of the prize is to honour individuals or organisations who dedicate their lives to the defence of human rights and freedoms, particularly the right to free expression.
