Wroclaw to be the European Capital of Culture in Poland 2016.

The city of Wrocław was recommended for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2016 by an independent selection panel. It will host the title along with a Spanish city, to be selected next week. The formal nomination by the Council of the European Union will take place in May 2012.

European Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou has congratulated Wroclaw on its accomplishment hoping that this unique opportunity will bring significant cultural, economic and social benefits for the city and its surrounding area.

26 years and more than 40 cities mater, the European Capitals of Culture is one of the European Union’s must recognised cultural initiatives.
